东南亚学是以东南亚为核心的区域国别学,它是以东南亚地区为范围界定的、将地区知识实现理论化与抽象化,并经过验证的系统知识与思想表达。“他域”视角是区域国别研究的天然属性,东南亚学也具有典型的他者属性,东南亚研究如何进入属地的知识体系并能形成固定的知识生产模式和渠道是研究者们的共同追求。

在区域国别研究中,东南亚别具独特性。东南亚地区的自然景观、地理风貌、族群分布和人文特征吸引了众多研究者前赴后继地投身于东南亚这片充满挑战并富有智趣的土地中,这个群体将东南亚的知识创造融入了生命与生活。对于众多醉心于田野调查的东南亚研究者们而言,对东南亚区域和国别的知识生产本质上是超越学科与学术框架的。因此,在学术与社会之间,东南亚研究形成了一片丰饶的知识生长地带。

华南师范大学东南亚研究中心作为中国教育部批准备案的“国别和区域研究基地”,是研究东南亚和东盟的专门研究机构、培养东南亚和东盟研究人才的机构、具有咨政功能的智库、具有基础研究和应用推广及人才培养功能的专业基地,以及促进区域间交流合作的协同创新平台。当前,中心正依托“东南亚学”交叉学科建设,致力于成为区域国别学框架下中国东南亚学时代发展的参与者与推动者。

为促进与东南亚研究同行们的深入对话与交流,秉持研究之开放性、包容性和跨学科性之宗旨,中心荣幸邀请来自泰国、印尼、马来西亚、菲律宾、文莱、 新加坡等东盟国家及我国学者一道,分享多元视角下的研究经历,通过学者间的“换位思考”与“换位交流”,寻觅中国东南亚研究与东南亚中国研究的思想交汇。依托对中国与东南亚区域研究的历史经验,共同探索中国与东南亚的未来合作与发展之路。


研讨会将主要涵盖以下几个方面主题:

2、学术与社会:区域国别研究者的双重人生空间

3、来自历史的启示:中国与东南亚的未来

Academic and Social Views on Southeast Asian Studies

Conference Agenda



Southeast Asian studies is an important branch of area studies. With its geographical features, framed by validated systematic knowledge and expression of ideas, Southeast Asian studies is constantly undergoing the theorization and abstraction of the regional knowledge. The ontological stability of “others” , which is a natural attribute of area studies, it is also imprinted on southeast asian studies. For scholars and practitioners, how to integrate into the local knowledge system, civilize and optimize the present knowledge production models and channels is expected to be the common pursuit .

Southeast Asia is unique in area studies. The uniqueness embodies in its natural landscape, geographical features, ethnic diversities, and cultural characteristics, the attraction translates into the researcher’s devotion to this challenging and intellectual land of Southeast Asia. The research community immerse the knowledge creation efforts deeply into the local context and his/her own lifestyle. It is not hard to know that, for researchers who addicted to field research, the academic life of Southeast Asian studies is far beyond the disciplinary and scientific framework. Between academia and society, Southeast Asian studies has opened up a fertile soil for both knowledge growth and personal experience.

Center for Southeast Asian Studies, SCNU was established in 2017 which focusing on international and country studies. Its main tasks are to promote the academic research on ASEAN and Southeast Asia countries; to strengthen the professional talents in Southeast Asian Studies; to deepen the policy research for social consultation needs as a think tank; to promote the collaborative innovation and inter-regional exchanges on Southeast Asian Studies. Adhering to the openness, inclusiveness nature of the area stuides, with its interdisciplinary teamwork, the center is committed to the growth of Southeast Asian studies in China.

In order to promote in-depth dialogue and exchange with counterparts in Southeast Asia, the center takes the honor to organize an international seminar and invite representatives from Southeast Asian countries includes Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Brunei, Singapore, and Vietnam to share academic experiences and frontier viewpoints together with Chinese scholars. The seminar encourages empathy and transpositional conversation, and it aims to seek the mutual understanding of “others” under diverse and academic background of attendees. It is believed that, by the historical experience of China and Southeast Asia studies, rationals and path-paving topics on the region’s cooperation and shared development could be discussed.


The seminar will mainly cover the following topics:

1. The Perspective of “Others”: Heart-to-Heart Talks between Chinese and Southeast Asian Researchers

2. Academic and Social Life: The Dual Space of Area Studies

3. Inspirations from History: The Future of China and Southeast Asia Time: June 22, 2024.(Sat.)
