Advance Notice | "Southeast Asia Forum" 2026
The year 2026 marks the launch of China's 15th Five-Year Plan, its national medium-term development blueprint. It also commemorates the 35th anniversary of China-ASEAN dialogue relations and the fifth anniversary of the establishment of their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Version 3.0 of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area has entered a new phase of implementation. while the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 has been officially launched, placing regional cooperation at a new historical juncture. Nevertheless, the prevailing international landscape remains complex and fluid, with mounting uncertainties in the external environment. President Xi Jinping has emphasized the importance of upholding opening-up to foster win-win cooperation across diverse fields. The 33rd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting, to be held in Shenzhen this November, serves as a vivid embodiment of this philosophy of openness. As frontier hubs for opening-up, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) and Hainan Free Trade Port (HPTP) are assuming ever-greater strategic significance in deepening China-Southeast Asian cooperation, creating valuable opportunities and solid policy underpinnings for high-level integrated development among the three regions.
At this pivotal moment for regional cooperation, the "Southeast Asia Forum" celebrates its 10th anniversary. Building on a decade of accumulated endeavors. the Forum embarks on a new journey. The Center for Southeast Asian Studies of South China Normal University, in joint partnership with the Guangdong International Cultural Exchange Center and the Cross-Straits & Hong Kong Macao Collaborative Innovation Alliance, will host the 10th International Conference of the "Southeast Asia Forum" from 20 to 23 November 2026.
Centered on the theme Future-Oriented Collaborative Development among the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Hainan Free Trade Port and Southeast Asia, this conference cordially invites statesmen, academics, business, media outlets, think tanks and other sectors representatives and stakeholders from China and Southeast Asian nations to participate. It aims to explore effective approaches to align the Greater Bay Area's innovation strengths, Hainan Free Trade Porter's policy dividends and the market potential of Southeast Asian countries. Seeking to break down barriers to cooperation exacerbated by external geopolitical disturbances, the conference strives to achieve complementary advantages and resource sharing for concerted progress in key sectors including industrial and supply chains, digital-intelligent technologies, green economy, education and culture. Through pragmatic collaboration, it seeks to advance all-round connectivity between China and Southeast Asia, and deliver actionable and replicable collaborative-development solutions for fostering an even closer China-ASEAN Community with a Shared Future.
